About Jay Gordon MD, FAAP, IBCLC, FABM
As
a pediatrician in private practice in Santa Monica for 25 years, Dr. Jay Gordon
is one of the most respected family medicine practitioners in the nation.
He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a teaching and attending
faculty at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and UCLA assistant clinical professor
of pediatrics, lecturer, book author, television/radio commentator and internationally
recognized in the areas of pediatric nutrition and parenting.
In the middle of his residency training, pediatrician Jay Gordon took an unusual step. Deciding that he needed greater knowledge about nutrition, vitamins and alternative medicine in order to practice medicine the way he wanted to, Dr. Gordon took a Senior Fellowship in Pediatric Nutrition at Sloan-Kettering Institute in New York City.
Intensely interested in infant nutrition and breastfeeding, Dr. Gordon is the first male physician to sit for and pass the International Board of Lactation Certification Exam. He has served on the Professional Advisory Board of La Leche League for over twenty years. Dr. Gordon treats patients at his practice in Santa Monica, California. In addition, he finds time to participate in the training of medical students and residents, write books, and contribute to a weekly on-line chat. He is a regular columnist in "Fit Pregnancy" magazine and has recently contributed to "New York Parent," "Parenting" magazine and has been quoted in the L.A. Times, New York Times, London Times . . . and many other times.
Dr. Gordon's first book, the well-received "Good Food Today, Great Kids Tomorrow," offers a life-changing plan for families who want to make dramatic changes in health and fitness through nutrition. "Brighter Baby," examines the positive effect that attachment parenting, combined with infant massage, has on children's health and intelligence. Other recent releases are "Good Night! The Parents' Guide to the Family Bed" and “Listening To Your Baby: A New Approach to Parenting Your Newborn." Dr. Gordon also contributed and wrote the Forward to "Smart Medicine for a Healthy Child" and "The Encyclopedia of Vitamins and Supplements".
Along with his books, Dr. Gordon is a regular contributor to nationally recognized journals and parenting magazines such as Fit Pregnancy and Mothering Magazine. He is the only M.D. that regularly contributes his blog at HuffingtonPost.com. At his website, drjaygordon.com he posts useful information about his approach to pediatric care and conducts regular chat rooms with parents and other healthcare professionals.
Busy as he is, Dr. Gordon finds that his most important and challenging job is "being a good husband and the best possible parent to my daughter."
